Privacy Policy

petscop.org hosts Petscop Connect, a free, non-commercial fan game you play in your browser or in the desktop app. This page explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and what you can do about it. Questions and requests: info@petscop.org.

The short version

Who can play online

Petscop Connect is not made for children. You must be at least 13 years old to play online. In some countries (for example in parts of Europe) the age at which you can agree to online services on your own is 14, 15 or 16. If you are below that age where you live, a parent or guardian must agree before you play online.

If you are under 13, please play offline: choose Play Offline on the rules screen, or open the pause menu (Esc) > Player > Online and turn it off. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you think a child under 13 has played online, email us with their nickname and roughly when they played, and we will delete their data.

What stays on your device

The game keeps these in your browser's storage (or in the desktop app): your memory card saves and recordings, your settings, your nickname, the players you blocked, the sheets you made, whether you have seen the rules, a random device ID and a session token. The device ID is a random number made by the game. It is not read from your hardware. (The original Giftscop desktop game sends an ID of its own instead.)

All of this stays on your device. Only the device ID and the session token are sent to our server: when you play online, ask the Tool, upload a sheet or send a report. We do not use cookies for players. Everything stored is needed for the game to work, so we do not ask for permission first. You can remove it by clearing the site data for petscop.org, but that also deletes your saves.

What we collect when you play online

Other players in your world see your nickname, your character, your chat and P2 Talk, and where you are in the game. They also get an anonymous player key for you, so they can block you. It does not reveal your IP address or device. In a private library room, only players with the same room code can see you.

If Can Be Observed is on (pause menu > Player), another player's Burn-in Monitor may show which area you are in, where you stand and whether you are idle. It never shows your nickname or your chat. You can turn it off there.

Chat translation and the Tool

When players who use other languages are in your world, your chat lines are translated for them automatically. The Tool answers questions in a similar way. Both use AI language models that run on our own computer, not at an AI company. The model only gets the text to translate or the question (and your nickname if you ask the Tool about it), never your IP address or device ID. Lines with blocked words are stopped before they reach the model. To stop seeing translations, turn off pause menu > Player > Translate chat.

Technical logs

Like every website, our web server logs each request (IP address, time, the page or file, and your browser). Our game server also writes a running log of joins, nicknames, chat and moderation actions so we can fix problems. The desktop app checks petscop.org for updates, which shows up in these logs too. They are deleted after at most 90 days.

Why we use it

We never use it for advertising or profiles, and we never sell it. A word filter blocks some words automatically and limits stop spam, but bans and decisions about reports and sheets are made by people.

For players in the EU, the UK and other places that ask for a legal basis: we rely on our legitimate interest in running a safe online game that you chose to play. The data on your device is strictly necessary for the game you asked for. If the law requires it, we may also keep or hand over data, for example to report serious crimes.

How long we keep it

Who can see it

Only us and our moderators, through a password protected admin page. We do not sell, rent or share your data, and we do not use outside companies for analytics, ads or AI. Everything runs on servers we manage ourselves: a server we rent from a hosting company (it stores the disk for us but does not use the data) and our own computer for the AI models. We only give data to police or courts when the law requires it, or to report serious crimes such as child abuse material.

Where your data is

Our game and web server is in the United States. If you play from another country, your data goes there. Privacy laws there may be different from yours. We protect your data the same way, as described on this page, wherever you live.

Connections to petscop.org in the browser and in the Petscop desktop app are encrypted. The original Giftscop desktop game and game console versions connect to our server without encryption, so use the browser or the Petscop desktop app if that matters to you.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you the data we have about you and give you a copy, to correct it, to delete it, or to stop using it. Email info@petscop.org. As there are no accounts, please tell us your nicknames, roughly when you played and, if you can, your IP address, so we can find your data. We may ask you something only you would know (for example a chat line you sent) to make sure the data is yours. We answer within one month, and it is free.

When you ask us to delete your data, we delete your activity, chat and Tool questions, and remove your details from reports and from the sheets you uploaded. Tell us if you also want a sheet itself removed. An active ban is kept until it ends, because it would not work otherwise.

We give these rights to everyone, wherever you live, and we will not treat you differently for using them.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date below shows the latest version. If we ever add something new, such as analytics or ads on the site, we will update this page first and ask for your permission where the law requires it.
